This is an opportunity for a Senior Java Developer with leadership experience to build their own team of Java Developers at a new technology start-up. The company provides integration services for gaming companies and is already on course to make a profit in the first year of trading.


  • Hands-on software engineering working closely with CTO and Head of Operations
  • Help with the recruitment of team members with relevant skillsets
  • Provide technical direction for the development team based on best practice and company standards
  • Mentoring and day-to-day management of the development team


  • Excellent communications skills in both oral and written form
  • Able to facilitate/lead client and team meetings
  • Willingness to learn new technology and skills on the job
  • Ability to work independently and also as a team member
  • Ability to understand business needs and translate into technical requirements
  • Willing to learn new ways to develop programs and maintain existing skills and knowledge using manuals, periodicals and technical reports

Technical Knowledge

  • Hands-on commercial experience with at least one modern programming language e.g. Java. using different development frameworks and libraries
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Knowledge of/experience with distributed and/or high-throughput transactional applications

Experience advantageous in the following:

  • Running multi-discipline teams using an agile or lean methodology
  • Test-driven development
  • Spring framework
  • Enterprise Integration (including message buses)
  • Functional/Reactive programming
  • Relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • NoSQL databases (especially Cassandra and MongoDB)


  • Past experience managing small teams on-site including technical and personal reviews
  • Experience with the hiring process
  • Offsite team management experience (non essential)
