Description

One of the ‘Big Four’ multi-national consultancies is looking for a hands-on Technical Architect to take full ownership of a new start-up product within the business. This position requires someone with excellent hands-on coding ability coupled with high-level architecture, and you will build a team of Developers around you.

You will be designing and delivering core system components, but also identifying technical opportunities as well as R&D and prototyping areas. This is an ideal position for someone with a strong Java development background who still loves to code, but also has broader ambitions, mainly in the leadership and technical architecture areas.

As well as hands-on coding and peer reviews we expect you to have articulate opinions on best practices as well as lateral approaches to solving technical challenges. It’s essential to be able to employ critical thinking and to be able to dissect between what is tech community dogma and what is practical within a given context.

You would be expected to contribute design and architecture ideas that can deliver our objectives, and afterwards to help implement, deploy and support these solutions.

You will develop an understanding of the system as a whole, its business objectives and how users interact with it, but also a detailed understanding of all the moving parts and the impact of technical decisions at a low level.

Essential Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will prove an understanding in the following areas, at the specified levels or above:

  • Senior Java and related toolset
  • ElasticSearch or other search solutions
  • Guice
  • JIRA/Confluence
  • Caching techniques
  • AWS (EC2, etc)
  • Riak KV Store
  • Akka
  • Dropwizard
  • XML and XSLT
  • Apache Kafka
  • REST concepts
  • Good understanding of unit testing and integration testing
  • Good understanding of distributed systems
  • Good understanding of concurrency, multi-threading, asynchronous design
  • Good understanding of dependency injection, inversion of control

This is an opportunity for a Technical Lead/Architect to take full ownership of a start-up product within a global organisation so you have the freedom to choose the technology while having the financial backing to execute this, as well as it coming with a competitive salary, bonus and benefits package.
